Joy Ride

On Partrick road

The sun was setting as a group of teenagers drove up Patrick’s Road in Napa Valley. Trees whizzed by as they rode in a convertible. “Michael, slow down!” cried Beth, gripping the car seat. “You’re going too fast!”

“Don’t worry, Beth. I’ve driven this road hundreds of times.” I know what I’m doing,” With a wide smile on his face, Michael responded while increasing the volume of the radio. After reaching the peak of the hill, Michael parked the car, and they stepped out to appreciate the stunning city lights. But, their moment of peace was shattered by a piercing screech that left them horrified.

“What was that?” asked Katie.

A creature descended from the trees. The echo of its beating wings reverberated through the forest. It landed in a crouch and glared at them with contempt from smoldering red eyes. “Oh my god, what is that thing?” Jake said, his voice quivering with fear.

“It’s a Rebob!” Michael said, taking a step back. “Get in the car, quick!” The group scrambled back into the car, but before Michael could start the engine, the beast launched itself at them, digging its claws into the hood of the car. The teenagers screamed and they could smell its breath.

“Drive, Michael, drive!” cried Beth, her voice cracking with fear. Michael slammed his foot down on the accelerator, and the car lurched, throwing the monster off the hood. But it wasn’t long before the creature was chasing, attacking them again and again. “Go,go!” yelled Jessica, her face filled with terror. Michael drove as fast as he could. They reached the end of the road and saw an old cemetery. The tombstones and twisted trees glowed in the moonlight.

“Stop”, Michael!” ordered Beth. “We can hide in the graveyard.”  Michael pulled into the cemetery, and they got out of the car and ran. They heard the sound of the Rebob’s wings flapping through the air and saw the creature landing to perch on a nearby tree, its hungry red eyes glaring at them.

“We have to fight it!” yelled Michael, grabbing a heavy stick from the ground. The monster swooped down towards them, and Michael swung the branch, striking it in the face. The creature screeched in anger and retreated, giving them enough time to escape.

As they drove away, the monster chased after them, its bat-like wings roared against the wind. But they outran it, leaving Partrick Road and the beast behind.

Breathing heavily, they were all grateful to be alive. “That was the most terrifying thing I ever saw,” said Jessica, her voice shaking. “I know,” replied Beth, tears streaming down her face. “But we made it out alive and now we know to beware of Partrick Road.
