The sun had set, leaving a crimson glow in the sky, as four teenagers made their way up Patrick’s Road in the Napa Valley. The oak trees along the grass-covered hillside were a blur as the convertible zoomed past. “Michael, slow down!” cried Beth, gripping the sides of the car. “You’re going too fast!”
“Don’t worry, Beth. I’ve driven this road a hundred times. I know what I’m doing,” Michael replied, grinning as he turned up the radio.
They reached the top of the hill, Michael pulled over, and they got out of the car to admire the city lights. But their moment of peace was short-lived. A deafening screech filled the air, causing them to turn in horror.
“What was that?” asked Katie, shivering as she wrapped her arms around herself. But before anyone could respond, a shadowy figure swooped down from the trees, landing in front of them. It was and muscular. It’s red eyes glowed in the dark and it was covered in fur with two large wings protruding from its back. The teeth of the creature glistened, as if it was hungry for a snack.
“Oh my god, what is that thing?” Jake said, his voice quivering with fear.
“It’s a Rebob!” Michael said, taking a step back. “Get in the car, quick!” The group scrambled back into the car, but before Michael could start the engine, the beast launched itself at them, digging its claws into the hood of the car. The teenagers screamed and they could smell its breath.
“Drive, Michael, drive!” cried Beth, her voice cracking with fear. Michael slammed his foot down on the accelerator, and the car lurched forward, throwing the monster off. But it wasn’t long before the creature was back, attacking them again and again.
“We have to get out of here!” yelled Katie, her face pale with terror. Michael nodded and sped off, driving as fast as he could up the winding road. As they neared the top of the hill, they spotted an old cemetery, its tombstones illuminated by the headlights.
“Stop the car, Michael!” ordered Beth. “We can hide here!” Michael pulled into the cemetery, and they got out of the car and ran through the old, crumbling graveyard.
They heard the sound of the Rebob’s wings flapping through the air. They looked and saw the creature landing to perch on a nearby tree, its hungry red eyes focused on them.
“We have to fight it!” yelled Michael, grabbing a heavy stick from the ground. The monster swooped down towards them, and Michael swung the branch, striking it in the face.
The creature screeched in anger and retreated, giving them enough time to escape. As they drove away, the monster chased after them, its bat-like wings roared against the wind. But they outran it, leaving Partrick Road and the beast behind.
